Project background

ANYbotics develops the quadrupedal robot ANYmal to provide autonomous inspection in challenging environments such as industrial sites, power plants, and subterranean systems. ANYmal is equipped with powerful actuators, custom electronics, and state-of-the-art perception sensors (LIDAR, stereo cameras, GPS) to navigate through complex environments. We develop numerous custom hardware systems, including sensors, actuators, drivers or general-purpose management/control systems that often require dedicated firmware and associated software interfaces.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced certification engineer to join our development team to make our mobile robotic solutions market compliant. You will be working closely with the electrical and mechanical design engineering teams to identify risks and design solutions for product-level EMC and Safety compliance; this includes design, documentation and marking requirements to satisfy the dependencies for regulatory/commercial conformance.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain product certification for existing/new products
  • Provide guidance to all departments on the application of standards, regulations and directives
  • Obtain new certificates and maintain all certificates, dealing with renewals and product design updates
  • Develop and maintain all certification documentation. Maintaining proper records, certification files and documentation control procedures, developing and improving these where necessary
  • Work closely with product development team to scope and plan test programs to demonstrate compliance to applicable standards and commercial compliance
  • Work closely with test partners during the execution of compliance test programs to demonstrate compliance and obtain reports/certifications
  • Carry out and monitor practical certification testing
  • Liaise with all 3rd party certification and testing authorities
  • Organise and participate in certification related internal and external audits
  • Maintain product marking systems, registers, declarations of conformity
  • Assist sales and field support personnel with customer issues related to non-compliance, bid proposals/responses and conformity assessment 
  • Constantly research the regulatory environment and facilitate discussions regarding changes in regulatory requirements

Your profile

    Your Profile

    • University degree in engineering or science (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or doctorate)
    • 3+ years’ experience and knowledge in the certification process of electrical and mechanical products
    • Good knowledge of International, European, North American and Chinese standards, regulations, codes and directives 
    • Multi-disciplined in the regulatory areas of Safety, EMC, Radio, Telecom, Environmental
    • Detailed familiarity with European regulatory directives such as machinery directive, EMC, RoHS, RED
    • Strong technical writing/editing skills to review and manage written controls and governance documents (e.g. SOPs and guidelines)
    • Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, and problem solving skills that are pragmatic and which demonstrate a strong understanding of the business
    • Proven track record in being able to analyze complex situations to determine root cause

    Bonus Points

    • Working knowledge of various country approvals, regulatory marks and homologation processes is preferred
    • Experience in certification of explosion-proof equipment (IECEx/ATEX)
