The SDSC has been a National Research Infrastructure since 2025, evolving from a strategic focus area of the ETH domain, with EPFL and ETH Zurich as founding partners. Its mandate is to support academic groups and research, hospitals, industry, and the public sector at large, including cantonal and federal administrations. The center accompanies and supports their entire data science journey, from the collection and management of data to machine learning, AI, and industrialization. 

The Center comprises a multi-disciplinary team of data and computer scientists and experts in several domains, with offices in Zürich, Lausanne, and Villigen.

Project background

We are currently looking for a Data Scientist to join SDSC's Innovation team, whose mission is to accelerate the adoption of data science by Swiss companies, public sector and NGOs.

Job description

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and test machine learning systems to solve industry and public sector challenges.
  • Be involved in all aspects of a data science research project, from business understanding to proof of concepts and communication of achievements.

More specifically, in this role, you will:

  • Meet customers to understand their business needs and design specific data science solutions to solve selected problems.
  • Code and test the proposed solution (PoC), communicate results to stakeholders, and provide final reports of the work done and related outcomes.
  • Present data science results to other non-technical audiences on occasion.

Profile

We are looking for candidates (m/w/d) with the following profile:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, Mathematics, Physics, or similar field (PhD a plus)
  • Ability to present results to different audiences (technical, non-technical)
  • Solid knowledge of machine learning concepts and programming skills in Python, R, or a similar language
  • 1-3 years of data science experience within the industry 
  • Fluency in (Swiss) German and English
  • Openness to collaborative work, eagerness to learn new concepts and methods, willingness to contribute to an inclusive environment.
  • Solid knowledge in NLP / Computer Vision, and Deep learning is a plus.
