Biostatistics Analyst

The ETH Zurich core facility NEXUS Personalized Health enables discovery and translational research for personalized health. The mission of the Biostatistics Group at NEXUS is to provide expertise in statistics and computational biology to advance biomedical research and clinical applications.

We are looking for a Biostatistician to join our international and multidisciplinary team in Zurich, immediately or by mutual agreement.

Job description

You will primarily be responsible for the project-tailored statistical analysis and results reporting of diverse multi-omics data types, such as but not limited to, whole transcriptome bulk, single-cell, and spatial data. Our projects are typically in a biomedical research or clinical diagnostics setting and their scope can be very wide, ranging from basic differential expression analyses to clinical studies. To this end, NEXUS collaborates with various academic institutions, hospitals and companies and you will be communicating with a diverse set of stakeholders in those domains.

About the position:

  • You will provide expert support in statistical data analysis to our clients in the field of personalized health and translational research, be it inference with generalized linear models, Cox regression, or probabilistic outcome prediction.
  • You will support customers in statistical considerations of sample size and experimental design.
  • You will participate in the evaluation and implementation of new methods to improve existing pipelines.
  • You will be developing, using and sharing software tools compliant with the reproducible research paradigm (markdown, git, containerization).

Profile

As a successful candidate you have

  • a PhD in biostatistics or a quantitative science, or equivalent level of experience (e.g., MSc plus work experience).
  • broad and deep expertise in applied biostatistics including modern methods for inference, prediction, and dimension reduction.
  • strong programming skills in R.
  • hands-on experience in analyzing biological or medical data, for instance during a master’s or PhD thesis or equivalent work.
  • enthusiasm in computational biology and translational research investigating multi-modal molecular data.
  • excellent communication skills and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • fluency in English, both verbal and written.

Advantageous are

  • Experience with the analysis of spatial data, time-to-event data, high-dimensional data, machine learning or AI.
  • Experience with NGS bioinformatics in a unix-based HPC environment.
  • Experience with workflow management systems.
  • Knowledge of German.
