Embedded Systems Engineer

We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Embedded Systems Engineer to join our interdisciplinary research group at ETH Zürich.
Project background
The Human-centered Sensing Laboratory focuses on the development of advanced sensor platforms that combine chemistry, physics, and engineering to address societal challenges in health and environmental monitoring. This position is part of a larger consortium bringing together engineering, data science, microbiology and medical expertise from ETH Zürich, University Zürich, University Hospital Zürich and Balgrist Hospital.
Job description
In this position, you will support the development and improvement of our gas sensing systems. Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing analog and digital circuits for various sensor systems
- Programming embedded platforms (e.g., STM32, ESP32, Arduino-based systems) in C/C++ and user interfaces in Python
- Developing and integrating new functionalities into our custom-built gas sensing platforms
- Supporting the maintenance, calibration, and data acquisition software of sensor prototypes
- Collaborating with a diverse team of engineers and scientists in a highly interdisciplinary environment
Depending on your skill set, you may also contribute to mechanical design (CAD) or data acquisition workflows (e.g., in LabVIEW).
Profile
You bring creativity, precision, and a strong technical background. The ideal candidate has:
- A completed BSc or MSc ETH/FH in Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
- At least one year of work experience in circuit design and embedded systems development
- Strong skills in analog and digital circuit design
- Programming experience in C/C++ and Python for embedded applications
Additional experience (not mandatory but advantageous):
- Mechanical design using CAD software (e.g. Fusion 360, SolidWorks, NX)
- LabVIEW for measurement and control applications
