Student Assistants in Comparative Law

The Center for Law and Economics at ETH Zurich is looking for 2-3 research assistants who speak Arabic, Japanese, Korean, OR Spanish to work on a project on privacy law diffusion.
Job description
You will work on the analysis of privacy laws worldwide. Your tasks will include:
- Mapping global legislation on privacy law
- Coding privacy laws by reading them and analyzing whether specific rights or provisions are present
- Cross-checking results with other members of the IP group
- There is potential to contribute to making the project publicly accessible online in a website format. While the exact format is yet to be determined, this could involve participating in the creation of a dynamic tool for comparing privacy laws globally.
Working Hours
The workload is 5 hours per week (flexible) and the project is to be concluded by August 2025.
Profile
- You are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in law at the University of Zurich, the University of St. Gallen, or another university near Zurich.
- You have an interest in law or policy diffusion, privacy law, and international comparative law.
- Knowledge of privacy / data protection law is highly desirable.
- You have excellent academic performance and very good English skills.
- You must also speak one or several of the following languages: Arabic, Japanese, Korean, or Spanish (or have experience working with laws in the MENA region, Japan, South Korea, or Latin America).
- You are interested in working in an interdisciplinary environment as part of a young, dynamic, and international team.
- You are interested in designing and conducting interdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with a team of legal, economics, and computer science scholars.
