Part-time lecturer in English for academic purposes (EAP)

30%-50%, Zurich, fixed-term

The Language Center of the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich is currently seeking an EAP lecturer to start in the spring 2024 semester. The Language Center serves the University of Zurich (UZH) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich. Its English unit provides a range of high-level academic English courses to Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD/doctoral students, postdocs, and staff.

Job description

The successful candidate will:
  • Develop, teach, and assess EAP courses for Bachelor's, Master's students, and PhD/doctoral students, and staff from all Faculties (UZH) and Departments (ETH). This includes regular 14-week semester courses and shorter tailor-made courses for internal clients
  • Work in a team with other EAP lecturers on program and course development
  • Undertake administrative tasks relating to their own courses
  • Participate in Language Center meetings, training activities, and other events

Profile

Your skills and experience:
  • A PhD in Applied Linguistics, English language, TESOL, or a related field
  • A teacher training qualification (DELTA, teacher training diploma, or similar)
  • At least 4 years' experience teaching specialized English courses at university level
  • Experience and proven skills in curriculum development and materials design
  • An interest in teamwork and skills exchange
  • Excellent English skills (CEFR C2+)
  • German skills (CEFR B2)
  • Solid IT skills: MS Office, online platforms (Moodle, OLAT), online teaching tools (Zoom, Teams)
