Data Scientist/Specialist in the field of informetrics

The ETH Library ( is the Swiss center for technical and scientific information. The Knowledge Management Group, hosted by the section Research Support Service, is hiring a Data Scientist/Specialist in the field of informetrics starting on June 1, 2021 at latest. The successful candidate will support researchers, departments and administration. Among other things, the main responsibilities include consultations about publication strategies, impact analyses and the testing, adaptation, and introduction of information management tools.

Job description

In this role, you will perform important tasks in support of the Knowledge Management Group. One central role will be the advice and support of the ETH staff concerning Knowledge Management. You will contribute to developing conceptions for various services for the ETH staff and the library, participate in the planning of new workflows, and implement these conceptions and workflows in collaboration with your colleagues. In addition, you will process requests from the ETH staff for bibliometric and altmetric services. For this purpose, you will be asked to identify the respective needs of the inquiring partner. You will be closely collaborating with your colleagues in the team and other groups, including the ETH Library’s IT-Services. In addition, you will be representing the Knowledge Management Group in inter-group and inter-team projects, as necessary.

Your profile

You hold a Master's degree, preferably in the area of information science/library science, computer science, data science, or social science. You bring experience in statistical analysis as well as the use of appropriate software packages for data analysis (such as R, Python or Stata). You have experience working with (relational) databases and knowledge about the conceptualisation of databases, ideally you also have experience in analyzing bibliometric data. You demonstrate proficiency in English (written and spoken) and are willing to learn or improve your German language skills within one year of starting the position). Furthermore, you work independently and in a structured manner and deliver your work reliably.
