Postdoctoral Research Position – Plasmonic Nanostructures
100%, Zurich, fixed-term
For our Sinergia project entitled “Plasmonic nanoparticle-enhanced near-infrared organic light-emitting diodes” the Laboratory for Multifunctional Materials is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in the field of plasmonic nanostructures. The project is a collaboration between groups at Empa, ETH Zurich and EPFL.
Job description
In this position, you will be responsible for the microwave-assisted synthesis of metallic and semiconducting nanoparticles, as well as their structural and morphological characterization. A central aspect of your work will be the investigation of the optical properties of plasmonic nanoparticles using techniques such as UV-Vis and Raman spectroscopy. You will also prepare colloidal dispersions for thin film fabrication. Additionally, you will collaborate with consortium partners from various scientific disciplines, supervise Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students, contribute to scientific publications, and present your research findings at conferences.
Profile
The position requires a doctoral degree in materials science or chemistry, specializing in nanoparticle synthesis and characterization. Expertise in plasmonic nanostructures is essential for this role. Experience with transmission electron microscopy (including EELS) and/or ellipsometry is a strong advantage. You have the ability to work both individually and in a collaborative team environment and can demonstrate written and verbal communication skills in an academic setting. You are creative, motivated and you like to work independently on interdisciplinary research topics, taking full advantage of the excellent environment at ETH Zurich.
