To support research and teaching, the IT Services of ETH Zurich operate as a service organization in a large and complex IT environment. We offer ETH Zurich members high-quality, flexible and scalable IT services to help them compete with the best universities in the world.
The section ID Infrastructure (INFRA) is responsible for the data and voice networks of ETH Zurich as well as for the planning, installation and their maintenance. It is also responsible for services in the areas of storage, virtual servers / containers, multimedia equipment of lecture halls, video productions and recordings of lectures. In addition, the IT Security Center uses preventive methods and reactive processes to monitor the delivery and usage of IT services throughout ETH Zurich.
Project background
Different scientific data repositories within the ETH domain are accessible by using different authentication schemes, access technologies and functionalities for data access.
The Open Research Data (ORD) project wants to define and establish a common agreed Storage Access API for ETH domain data repositories. to enable the scientific community. Access to data is a fundamental part to provide Open Research Data to the scientific community.
The storage services team is responsible for the provision of resilient central storage services at ETH.
To strengthen our storage team within the ORD project, we are looking for committed personality as a specialist in computer science focused in data science immediately or by mutual appointment.
Job description
Your main tasks include developing storage access APIs in the complex storage infrastructure. As a specialist, you are the contact person for the ORD project. Requirement engineering for scientific data access and interactions within the project round off the task profile.
Profile
We expect you to have the following skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably in computer science or related disciplines.
- Basic understanding of large storage systems
- General knowledge of storage technologies
- Basic knowledge of how APIs work
- Good knowledge of at least one programming language
- Good knowledge of AWS S3 protocol
- Basic Knowledge of Identity Providers / Management Systems
- Good knowledge of linux OS and posix interface
You have a good command of English (written and spoken). Furthermore, you work independently and in a structured manner, reliable and you enjoy to share your knowledge within an inter organizational project, then we would like to meet you.
