KTT & communication specialist

The National Center of Competence in Research, NCCR Catalysis aims to develop skills, tools, and technologies that facilitate the transition towards a carbon-neutral and waste-free chemical industry for a sustainable society. Jointly led by ETH Zurich and EPFL since 2020, the research program is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and currently comprises 14 member institutions with over 200 members. The program’s second funding phase (August 2024 through July 2028) was recently confirmed.

The NCCR Catalysis Project Office is looking for a KTT & communication specialist (80-100%) to join the team and strengthen our activities within the end of 2024. They will work closely with all team members, particularly the Program Officer and Program Advisor.

Job description

In this role, you will join the NCCR Catalysis Project Office to expand on existing and to develop new KTT and communication activities. Your main tasks will be to:

  • Develop and implement the Phase II KTT strategy
    • Scout (experimental) technology within NCCR Catalysis, assess its maturity & possibly plan a call for early-stage spin-off support (Turbo Grant)
    • Ideate new aspects of the KTT strategy
  • Increase the program’s visibility together with the Program Officer
    • Identify publications and other output to feature
    • Write website articles and social media posts on scientific and collaborative progress
    • Maintain and expand established communication formats (Newsletter, Trailblazers and Behind The Publication features, event summaries, recognitions)
    • Develop communication to promote key program activities (courses, grants, fellowships) internally and externally 
    • Develop engagement formats for youth
  • Contribute to ongoing KTT-related activities
    • Conceive and attend large internal events (NCCR Catalysis Annual Meeting, Review Panel Site Visit)
    • Writing for and editing of our yearly scientific report

Profile

You have a scientific background with a good understanding of the Swiss academic system. Along with a strong interest in innovation and technology, you should have experience in communicating scientific news to various audiences and in identifying and developing compelling narratives. Your life situation gives you the flexibility to attend 1-2 (multi-day) events per year on-site. As a proactive individual with a creative and critical mindset, strong writing and organizational skills, you are confident in executing the abovementioned activities. You have a very good command of English and, ideally, a good command of German.
