Project background

Infrastructure includes the fixed physical objects and networks that ensure the functioning of a society, e.g. bridges in the road network, railroad tracks in the rail network, and pipes in the water connection or wastewater network. Infrastructure management includes all the necessary activities and processes that guarantee that existing infrastructure objects and networks provide an adequate level of service over a given period of time. It considers the relationship between infrastructure benefits and costs for all members of society, in economic and environmental as well as social terms.
