Field Technician in Mechatronics

Our research and teaching focuses on a better understanding of important processes on the Earth's surface and in the lithosphere. Thereby, field observations are combined with experiments, modelling, and theory.
Job description
The Engineering Geology group at ETHZ aims to make foundational insights into geological processes that interact with human development. To do this, we install and maintain a large network of environmental sensors. These include timelapse cameras, high temporal resolution LiDAR scanners, GNSS stations, weather stations, and fiber optic sensing devices. This network will be significantly expanded in the future, and we are looking for a technician who can assemble and install these field sensors.
You have strong knowledge and ability to design and install field sensors. This includes design and implementation of electronic parts (IOT, communication networks), as well as machining of protection cases and sensor mounts. You can work independently and as a team, and have strong planning skills. You have a strong interest in furthering our knowledge of natural systems, and supporting PhD students and Postdoctoral researchers in accomplishing their research goals.
Profile
- Ability and interest to travel and work in challenging alpine environments
- Ability to work in both English and German
- Ability to plan and execute projects independently
- Ability to work well in a team
- Documented hands on work experience (> 5 years) is considered an asset
- A higher education degree from a Fachhochschule is considered an asset
