PhD position: Computational mechanics

The Computational Mechanics Group in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering of ETH Zurich is seeking one doctoral student.
The position is associated to a project on phase-field modeling of fracture in concrete. The specific goals of the PhD project will be finalized after the selection procedure in collaboration with industrial partners.
Job description
You will work within the Computational Mechanics Group of ETH Zürich in collaboration with industrial partners. You will have the unique opportunity to learn, develop and apply a range of cutting-edge modeling and computational techniques. You will also be exposed to experimental methods used to produce data that will be useful to calibrate and validate your modeling and computational approaches. You will work in an interdisciplinary, cutting-edge, fast-paced research environment, interact with researchers with different specializations, gain skills in computational technologies, and interact with world-class collaborators.
Profile
We expect from you:
- Recently obtained master degree in engineering or physics with outstanding grades
- Excellent knowledge of continuum mechanics and finite element analysis
- Excellent coding abilities in at least one language
- Knowledge and experience with fracture mechanics and/or phase-field modeling are a plus
- A keen interest in computational mechanics and in scientific methods and research in general
- Excellent proficiency in English as working language
