Marketing and Communication Specialist – Space Enthusiast

50%-80%, Zurich, fixed-term

Are you passionate about marketing, communication, and the vast possibilities of space exploration and science? Did you ever wonder whether there is life beyond Earth? We are seeking a talented and experienced Marketing and Communication Specialist to join our dynamic team and lead the communication activities of the LIFE space mission.

Project background

The LIFE space mission

Until 1995, the eight planets orbiting around our Sun were the only planets known to us. However, over the last 30 years, the scientific community has discovered almost 6000 planets orbiting around other stars in our cosmic neighborhood allowing us to unravel the diversity of other worlds. But despite impressive progress in the field, one of the long-term goals of exoplanet science, that is the detection and characterization of dozens of exoplanets similar to Earth, is out of reach for the current generation of instruments. Only dedicated space missions will be powerful enough to address this goal. The most promising mission is the Large Interferometer For Exoplanets (LIFE). LIFE will detect and investigate hundreds of exoplanets, including a large sample of Earth-like objects. Impressively, LIFE will be able to measure atmospheric absorption bands in these other worlds, with a specific focus on molecules that are only present because of biological activity (such as oxygen in our Earth’s atmosphere). In other words: the goal of LIFE is to search for life on distant planets outside our Solar System!

Originating from ETH Zurich in Switzerland, the LIFE project has supporters and contributors worldwide with the goal to develop and implement the mission on an ambitious timescale and beyond the standard processes of (inter)national space agencies. To effectively and successfully engage with partners and donors, it’s time to shift gears and ensure that LIFE gets the professional marketing and communication strategy it needs.
