Peptide Chemistry Technician

The research group of Prof. Jeffrey Bode at the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry, ETH Zurich is engaged in the development of new reactions and the synthesis of organic molecules. This includes the chemical synthesis of peptides, proteins and protein conjugates and their application in chemical biology.

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated, independent and organized organic/peptide chemistry technician to support our peptide synthesis facility starting from December 1st, 2024 or by arrangement.

Profile

Key responsibilities

  • Synthesis of peptides by automated and manual solid phase peptide synthesis techniques
  • Purification of peptides by analytical & preparative HPLC and affinity chromatography techniques
  • Characterization of peptides by mass spectrometry (ESI-MS, MALDI-TOF) and other related techniques
  • Perform regular maintenance of peptide synthesizers to ensure smooth operation of the machines with minimum downtime
  • The candidate will coordinate peptide synthesis requests from users and execute them in a timely and reliable manner
  • Will help in maintaining stocks of special building blocks and peptide supplies
  • Carefully and diligently document research activities to ensure reproducibility
  • Provide oversight, training, and compliance for chemical safety

Job requirements

  • A completed apprenticeship as chemical laboratory technician or M.Sc. in chemistry or biochemistry
  • Experience in peptide chemistry and solid phase synthesis is required.
  • The ability to execute organic synthesis, particularly for the preparation of modified amino acid
  • Experience in the operation and repair of CS Bio peptide synthesizers and JASCO HPLC instruments is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills with a command of spoken and written German and English.
  • Ability to execute independent tasks in coordination with a team of researchers

The research group is highly international and the primary language for documentation and communication is English.
