Teaching and Research Assistants at the Institute of Design and Architecture IEA

40%, Zurich, fixed-term

We are looking for teaching and research assistants (40%), to support the team both in research and teaching, starting in March 2025 or to be defined. The position is a fixed-term contract for one year, renewable, with primary work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Project background

The Chair of Architecture and Construction, led by Prof. Adrien Comte and Adrien Meuwly, proposes a critical approach towards architecture and construction, considering the existing, available substance at the core of every project. By developing tailored tools and adopting a transdisciplinary approach, the chair aims to address contemporary construction and territorial challenges. The Chair's methodology is based on a clear focus on hands-on constructions.

Job description

To complete our team, we are looking for different profiles, each having their own specificities. Depending on your abilities and interests, your tasks can include : 

  • Second-year Bachelor Design Studio teaching : preparation of exercises, materials and documents, supporting the students in the development of their projects, organizing workshops, seminars and lectures, evaluating and grading the student projects
  • Diploma : preparation of topics, materials and documents, supporting the students in the achievement of their master-thesis and evaluating the projects
  • Seminar week : organizing workshops and/or visits in Switzerland and/or abroad once every semester on a focus theme related to the main research themes
  • Research : developing research and its outputs (publication, exhibition, ...)

Profile

  • Master's degree in architecture 
  • Fluent in English and German - knowledge of French and/or Italian is welcome
  • Good knowledge of construction, structure, detailing, technical drawing
  • Hands-on skills, interest and experience in constructive craftmanship
  • 2-3 years professional experience
