Job description

Your main responsibilities include  the maintenance and operation of standard and high-end TEMs, in particular cryo-TEMs (Titan Krios, Tecnai F20), as well as the related infrastructure (building and instrument specific IT / SW) and sample preparation tools (Vitrobot, cryo-holders, glow discharge, cryo-fixation, shadowing and sputtering…). You are furthermore in charge of the coordination/execution of repairs in collaboration with the instrument suppliers. You will also train and support users in cryo-TEM, including imaging/data collection strategies and sample preparation. Finally, you will independently execute service projects and ensure the further development of a state-of-the art electron microscopy activity at ScopeM - ETH Zurich.

Your profile

You bring along experience in the operation, maintenance of TEM, ideally including cryo-TEM. Previous experience with related techniques (for example cryo-SEM or cryo-FIB-SEM) is of advantage. You are used to work independently, can autonomously diagnose problems and execute small repairs. You enjoy providing support/training to users in electron microscopy, including sample preparation.
