Postdoctoral position in optoacoustic and multi-modal monitoring of tumor radiotherapy responses

100%, Zurich, fixed-term

The Functional and Molecular Imaging Group at the Institute for Biomedical Engineering (IBT), jointly affiliated with the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich, seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to develop new groundbreaking methods for noninvasive optoacoustic- and magnetic-resonance-based monitoring of tumor treatments of neurodegenerative diseases. Our Lab is devoted to the development of novel structural, functional, metabolic, and molecular imaging systems and methods. State-of-the-art infrastructure for in vivo imaging includes advanced multi-spectral optoacoustic tomography, high-field magnetic resonance scanners, fluorescence microscopy, ultrafast ultrasound, as well as hybrid imaging platforms not available elsewhere. The preclinical phase of the project will mainly focus on studies in mouse models, with clinical translation of the methodology expected at a later stage.

Job description

You will lead the development of new approaches for noninvasive monitoring of radiotherapies using optoacoustic and multimodal methods. In addition to that you will validate the new imaging methods in preclinical tumor models. You will also develop data processing and analysis methods and coordinate collaborative activities with radiobiology partners.

Your profile

  • PhD degree in physics, engineering or life sciences with strong focus on biomedicine/bioengineering
  • Expertise in image method development (experience with in vivo imaging is a plus)
  • Good algorithmic and programming skills
