Single Cell Genomics Expert at the Functional Genomics Center Zurich

The Functional Genomics Center Zurich (FGCZ) is an interdisciplinary research and training center of University of Zurich and the ETH Zurich. We support life science research with state-of-the-art technologies for genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics as well as by high-end bioinformatics analysis. The successful applicant will be part of the genomics team that develops and implements latest single cell sequencing methods and strategies, and provides services and training to the research groups of the Zurich and Swiss research community.

Job description

The position is part of the Genomics Unit of the FGCZ. The responsibilities include scouting for and implementation of latest single cell isolation and sequencing technologies and protocols, project discussions and experiment planning with research groups of ETH and UZH, single cell NGS library preparation, operation of automation technologies including 10X Genomics Chromium, Hamilton and Takara Icell8, and training and teaching of PhD students. The applicant is expected to autonomously carry out and coordinate whole workflows including the described project steps, and to contribute to data interpretation in collaboration with the FGCZ Bioinformatics team.

Profile

The ideal candidate...

  • disposes of a PhD in molecular biology or a related field,
  • has a deep knowledge of cell biology,
  • demonstrated project management and communication skills,
  • plus a keen interest in latest genomics technologies and their application in one of biology’s fastest progressing fields,
  • practical experience in working in a genomics or NGS core facility is an advantage,
  • highly team-oriented, flexible, organized, and adaptable,
  • advanced knowledge of English is essential, as this is the working language of the center.
