Research Technician - Cell and Molecular Biology

The Professorship of Genome Biology (Corn lab) develops and uses next-generation genome editing and regulation technologies for both fundamental biological discovery and to create potential therapies for human genetic diseases. We are seeking a Research Assistant with expertise in Cellular and Molecular Biology to join our team for a term-limited period of 7 months.

Project background

The Professor of Genome Biology is part of the D-BIOL Institute of Molecular Health Sciences. The laboratory works in a fast-moving field with global exposure, so applicants should be excited about a dynamic environment. This position will support research activities into organelle homeostasis using advanced genome editing tools. The position may perform experiments that include cloning, working with immortalized and primary human cells, genome editing, flow cytometry, and microscopy.

Job description

A significant percent effort will be dedicated to preparing and performing various experiments with mammalian cells, with an emphasis on human genome editing. Your field of activity will include:

  • Mammalian cell culture (cell lines and primary cells)
  • Cell editing and editing analysis
  • Molecular biology, such as PCR, qPCR, Western blotting, NGS library preparation

Profile

You are very well organized and able to work efficiently and with precision in a fast-paced environment. You are proactive and can work independently but also as part of a small group. You can use computer software to manage, analyze, and share information. Advanced knowledge of English is essential, as this is the working language of the team.

Required skills:

  • Molecular Biology or similar discipline qualification (e.g. B.Sc. degree or higher) with at least 2 years of professional experience in industry or academia
  • Expertise with standard molecular biology techniques
  • Mammalian cell culture experience

Preferred skills:

  • Experience with primary cell and/or stem cell culture
  • Experience with applying CRISPR-Cas or other genome engineering tools

Desired skills:

  • Experience with NGS library preparation protocols
