Coordinator for Experiential Learning Curriculum
50%-100%, Zurich, fixed-term
The Department of Materials (D-MATL) at ETH Zurich is looking for a Coordinator for Experiential Learning Curriculum to join the team for the development, coordination and teaching of the practical work and projects within our current Bachelor’s curriculum in Materials Science and Engineering as well as for a new study program in Interdisciplinary Engineering.
The Department of Materials offers a highly hands-on study program from the first semester. This includes laboratory experiments (Praktika) that are closely coordinated with our courses, and project-based learning to develop a comprehensive set of technical, methodological and personal skills. The department has state-of-the-art facilities, including a fully equipped space dedicated to projects known as the Materials Design Lab. This space is an integral part of the educational offer for our students and will fall under the responsibility of the new team member.
Job description
You will be responsible for designing and implementing integrative projects, in addition to mentoring and evaluating students working on the projects, and training teaching assistants who will coach student teams. You will oversee the project-based learning scheme and work with the coordinators of the two study programs, the D-MATL educational developer, and the Praktika supervisor to ensure a successful integration of project-based activities in the curricula. You will play a pivotal role in students' learning experience and in bringing the new curriculum to life.
Specific duties:
- Design student projects that integrate competences and know-how acquired in the lectures, exercises and lab courses, as well as teach and supervise these projects.
- Responsible for the operation and management of the Materials Design Lab, producing documentation for projects, and for liaising with other existing initiatives on project-based learning at ETH Zurich, e.g. PBLabs.
The position is available immediately with a start upon agreement. The initial appointment will be for one year with the prospect of becoming permanent. Part-time employment with affiliation to a research group in D-MATL is possible to provide synergy between the educational offer and the research of the department.
