The Institute for Particle Physics and Astrophysics (IPA) has a broad research program that addresses questions of basic science ranging from the lowest to the highest energies as well as from the smallest to the largest length scales of the universe. The IPA has a multi-disciplinary pool of technical support staff, the IPA “TechPool.”
We are seeking a talented and motivated Electrical Engineer to join the TechPool of IPA and to contribute to the institute's commitment to a variety of research experiments. As a valued member of the TechPool, you will play a crucial role in supporting the cutting-edge research conducted at the institute.
Job description
As a Electrical Engineer within IPA's TechPool, you will enjoy a work environment that encourages creativity, innovation, and collaboration. Your responsibilities will span a diverse range of tasks, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to various aspects of scientific and technical projects. These include among smaller projects the development of electronics for particle detectors located for example at CERN, PSI and ETHZ.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Development of digital and analog circuitries: Design and characterization of digital and/or analog circuitries.
- High Frequency Design: Design of high bandwidth data acquisition systems including cable and PCB layout.
- PCB Design: Design (schematic as well as layout) and assembly of PCBs.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with scientists and students at the institute, fostering a collaborative atmosphere where ideas flow freely across disciplines.
- Innovative Problem Solving: Tackle challenges at the intersection of technology and science, providing creative solutions to intricate problems encountered in the pursuit of groundbreaking research.
Profile
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in electronics design.
- Proficiency in PCB design software (preferably Altium).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Open minded towards fluent academic environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
- Fluent communication in English and ability to document your work in writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to contribute to analog or digital IC design.
- Motivation to contribute to the ETH apprentice education.
- Previous experience in an academic or research environment.
- Communication in German or motivation to learn German.
