Gramazio Kohler Research – The Chair of Architecture and Digital Fabrication at the Department of Architecture – invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher to lead the group´s research in Augmented Design and Fabrication. The Chair is engaged with the development of technologies in the field of computational design and novel construction processes using extended reality and robotics.The research is conducted in close collaboration with Design++, the center for Augmented Computational Design in Architecture, Engineering and Construction and the Immersive Design Lab.
Project background
The research exploration and development strongly focus on real-world architectural applications and build upon direct collaboration with ongoing research of the Gramazio Kohler Research group and with interdisciplinary partners from the Design++ network.
Job description
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team. You will also join as the co-lead of the Immersive Design Lab and the core team helping to lead and shape the research and teaching in Design++. You have profound expertise in extended reality (AR/MR/VR) for design or fabrication and an interest in human-machine collaboration. The position is geared towards coupling advanced extended reality design techniques with computational design and bespoke digital fabrication processes. This includes human-machine collaborative workflows and intuitive user interfaces for digital-physical processes.
Your profile
- We expect excellent programming skills (Python, C#), knowledge of game engines (Unity, Unreal Engine,...) and experience with sensing and tracking technologies.
- Ideally, you are familiar with CAD software (Grasshopper, Rhino) and robotic fabrication (ROS,…).
- In addition, you should have a doctoral degree in a related field and be highly motivated, reliable, and accurate.
- A high level of initiative and excellent teamwork skills are required, as you should be confident in leading a small team of young researchers and supervising doctoral students.
- Further, you should have excellent analytical skills and should be fluent in English.
