Project background
You will be a member of the Business Tendency Surveys research division. You will be working on a third-party project that the Business Survey Department is conducting together with the Labour Market Division. The Business Tendency Survey department regularly conducts surveys of companies. The department designs, implements and analyses surveys. The analyses are carried out both at microdata level and at time series level.
In your internship, you are part of a third-party commissioned project on the causes and consequences of labour shortages in Switzerland. You will compile a comprehensive literature review for this project and help implement a large-scale company survey. The data from the company survey will be analysed and visualized. Both the literature analysis and the data analysis are documented in a report for the client that you will co-author.
Job description
Your task will be to support the research staff in all aspects of the field research of this project. You will work closely with the project leaders, Klaus Abberger and Michael Siegenthaler, heads of the two KOF divisions, and other project team members. You will be responsible for assisting in reviewing the relevant literature, implementing an online survey, describing and conducting econometric analyses of microdata and validity checks, and documenting the findings. You also have the option to participate in project meetings with the external project partner, in internal research seminars and in the meetings of the forecasting group of KOF.

80-100%, Zürich, temporary, for a maximum of 5-6 months, starting date January or February.
The KOF Swiss Economic Institute at the ETH Zurich is the leading institute for applied research in economics in Switzerland (www.kof.ethz.ch).We expect that you spend at least half of the working hours on site in Zurich.
We are looking for individuals with a strong interest in empirical research, survey design and in labour market related topics. Prior experience in coding, analysing, and visualising data using a statistical software package (in particular R or Stata) is desired and an interest in expanding these skills is expected. Strong reading and writing skills in German are a further requirement.
