Laboratory Technician (Technical Assistant)

The Laboratory of Mitochondrial Biology is part of the ETH Department of Biology. Our research combines super-resolution microscopy and automated image analysis with molecular biology and proteomics to investigate how mitochondrial remodeling supports cell-and tissue specific functions, particularly in the nervous system. Our lab is located at the Institute of Biochemistry on the ETH Zürich Hönggerberg campus.

We are currently seeking a motivated laboratory technician who will be responsible for maintaining essential lab infrastructure, but will also contribute to ongoing research projects.

Join our international and ambitious research team focused on the role of mitochondria for cellular metabolism and physiology. Our research employs cutting-edge biology methods, such as super-resolution microscopy, alongside biochemical, and cell biology techniques.

Job description

As a key member of our team, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Support of the general lab infrastructure (ordering, maintenance of lab equipment and common reagent stocks).
  • support individual projects through molecular biology tasks (PCR, cloning, genetic manipulation of cell lines) and fluorescent microscopy
  • Maintenance of different human induced pluripotent stem cell lines (hiPSC)
  • Differentiation and culturing of human iPSC-derived neurons

Since our group primarily operates in English, strong English skills are essential, and German skills are an advantage.

Profile

  • You completed training as a lab technician or hold a university degree in biology, biochemistry or related field
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good communication skills in English (oral)
  • Molecular biology research experience
  • Experience with mammalian tissue cultures
  • Experience in iPSC cultures is a plus

This part-time position allows for flexible work arrangements, and, combined with ETH's excellent working conditions, makes the role especially appealing. The position is initially limited to one year, with the possibility of extension. Your workplace will be on the ETH Campus at Hönggerberg in Zurich.
